Dysport and Botox in New Jersey

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Brian S. Glatt, MD, FACS is often asked which product is better… Dysport or Botox?  Both Botox and Dysport are used to improve moderate to severe frown lines between the brows resulting from facial expressions that cause your skin to crease. As you age and lose skin elasticity, these furrows remain.   Both Botox and Dysport accomplish this improvement in the same way – by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles that create the creasing between your brows.  Both products allow the untreated muscles of your forehead to work normally, so you still exhibit facial expression when smiling, frowning or looking surprised. The active ingredient in both of these products is the same; however there are differences in the manufacturing process, and differences in concentrations and dosage.

Both FDA approved, Botox Cosmetic in April 2002, and Dysport in April 2009, these products produce very similar results when administered by a trained Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.  However, recent studies have found Dysport to be superior to Botox in treating the “crow’s feet” area -the outer corners of the eyes.

Rather than choosing one product over the other, Dr. Glatt takes a more individualized approach to treat moderate to severe frown lines in his patients.  He frequently uses Botox to treat the forehead furrows between the brows, and then Dysport to treat the crow’s feet area on either side of the eyes.  This customized treatment produces superior aesthetic results and ensures that his patients receive the best treatment option for each specific facial area.
