Male Cosmetic Procedures: Surgery of the Trunk

Surgery of the trunk for men at Premier Plastic Surgery Center of New Jersey, located in Morristown, is the final in a series of four articles exploring male cosmetic procedures and treatments offered by Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Brian S. Glatt, MD, FACS.

The practice of Brian S. Glatt, MD, FACS has always included a number of male patients, but in the past few years, Premier Plastic Surgery Center of New Jersey has seen a great increase in the number of men seeking cosmetic plastic surgery to enhance their appearance.  The need to look and feel younger has led many men to change their attitudes about exercise and diet, and they are now seeking professional skin care services, Botox and non-invasive injectable filler treatments, as well as cosmetic surgery procedures (plastic surgery).  Our Morristown, NJ location provides a discreet and private setting for men to feel comfortable undergoing treatment and discussing their plastic surgical goals.  Below are just a few of the many options available to our male clientele.

Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contour and proportion, and ultimately can enhance your self-image.  Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to localized fat deposits. These areas may also be present secondary to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness.

Please be advised that liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite, the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks, or loose saggy skin.

Abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin, and will tighten separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.  A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals.  Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The most common causes of this include aging significant fluctuations in weight, heredity, and prior surgery.

A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program.  Although, the results of a tummy tuck are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in your weight. For this reason, individuals who are planning substantial weight loss may be advised to postpone a tummy tuck.  Also, a tummy tuck cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be removed or somewhat improved if they are located on the areas of excess skin that will be excised, generally those treated areas below the belly button.

Male breast reduction is a surgical procedure that improves a condition known as gynecomastia.  This condition is characterized by excess localized fat, and/or glandular tissue in the breasat and may be present in one or both breast.  It can be the result of hormonal changes, heredity conditions, disease or the use of certain drugs and can be seen in all age groups.  Gynecomastia can cause emotional discomfort and impair your self confidence. Some men may even avoid certain physical activities and intimacy simply to hide their condition.  There are many techniques to resolve gynecomasta and remove the excess tissue.   Dr. Glatt will examine you to determine the best option for your specific case.
