A recessed or “weak” chin can affect the look of one’s entire face and profile. A weak chin can also make a person’s nose appear larger or neckline shorter and less defined. Chin implant surgery, known as genioplasty, improves facial proportions by insertion of a solid, durable implant to enhance the chin. Chin implant surgery can be performed through an incision in the mouth or through a tiny incision in the neck, just under the chin, in an area which is not visible. Dr. Glatt commonly uses semi-solid implants, which are firm and rubbery in feel. The implant is placed directly onto the bone of the chin, in a pocket just large enough to accommodate the implant to prevent any rotation or malposition. Often performed as an individual procedure, chin implant surgery may also be performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty surgery to provide better balance to the patient’s profile.
