Counterfeit Version of Botox Found in the United States

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued an alert that a counterfeit version of Botox has been found in the US and may have been sold to physicians’ offices nationwide.  Sold by an unlicensed supplier who is not authorized to distribute drug products in this country, these counterfeit products are considered to be unsafe by the FDA.

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Brian S. Glatt, MD, FACS purchases all of his Botox only from Allergan, the maker of this aesthetic product.

The use of counterfeit products is one way unscrupulous practitioners are able to offer “rock bottom” pricing on Botox and/or other injectables. These unregulated products are cheaper to purchase than authentic products purchased directly from FDA approved suppliers.  If the cost seems too good to be true, then it probably is!  Without the FDA’s safeguards on manufacturing, quality, storage and handling of products, the risks involved with the use of these counterfeit products are extremely high.

At Premier Plastic Surgery Center of New Jersey patient safety is our top priority.
