Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Brian S. Glatt, MD, FACS, of Premier Plastic Surgery Center of NJ in Morristown, has been named as one of New Jersey’s Top Doctors by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.  Congratulations from your entire staff!

We know that Dr. Glatt consistently achieves outstanding, yet natural results in surgeries of the face, breast and body; his post-op patients are evidence of this.  We know he possesses an innate ability to visualize how subtle changes can dramatically improve one’s appearance, as evidenced by his patients who receive Botox and injectable fillers, including the newest filler, Juvederm XC; we see the results first hand.  We also know that his individualized, personal approach for each patient is what sets Dr. Glatt apart from his peers; we hear this time and time again from both surgical and non-surgical patients.  But there is one thing we didn’t know……… how are Top Doctors chosen?

So here it is….each year New Jersey Monthly commissions a survey, and a questionnaire is mailed to every doctor licensed in New Jersey for at least five years – over 20,000 physicians!   Each of the doctors is asked to vote for physicians he or she would choose to treat himself or herself or a family member.  The votes are tallied by Specialty and the Top Doctors are chosen.  The fact that Dr. Glatt has been chosen as a Top Doctor is just one more assurance you have when you make an appointment for cosmetic surgery, Botox or injectable fillers.  We know it, our patients know it, the majority of New Jersey physicians know it, and now you do too!

Congratulations, Dr. Glatt!  Strong work!

Treatment for Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

By drglatt on September 2, 2009

Brian S. Glatt, MD, board certified plastic surgeon of the Premier Plastic Surgery Center of New Jersey explains how to help avoid stretch marks during pregnancy on parentsconnect.com.  To see the full article, click here: http://www.parentsconnect.com/lists/avoid-stretch-marks.jhtml

Your sister got them and you’re terrified you’ll get them, too. Or worse, you already have them, thanks to that beautiful baby you gave birth to. What to do? Dr. Brian S. Glatt, MD, of Premier Plastic Surgery Center of New Jersey, says the key to managing stretch marks is all about prevention. Indeed, genetics is a big factor, too, but there are a couple of things you can do to give yourself a fighting chance.

1. Gain weight gradually. This allows the skin to stretch slowly.

2.  Eat food with a high content of vitamins A, C, D, and E, zinc, omega 3s, essential fatty acids, and protein. “This will help your skin produce more elasticity and aid in extra healthy collagen production,” says Glatt.

3.  Drink up. Water, that is. “Staying adequately hydrated during pregnancy is thought to enhance the moisture content of the skin and may also contribute to the prevention of stretch mark formation,” according to Glatt.

4.  Moisturize. Dry skin that is being stretched is more likely to damage the underlying collagen and elastin fibers. Moisturized skin will have increased elasticity. Look for moisturizing creams made from aloe vera, cocoa butter, grape seed, squalene oil, vitamin E, collagen, pro-vitamin B5, germ oil, aroma oil or essential oil. All can help to prevent the formation of stretch marks by moisturizing and increasing the elasticity of skin. Glatt recommends cocoa butter in a stick or in the tub, not creams with cocoa butter content. He recommends Palmer’s Cocoa Butter. “Rub it into the entire abdomen, flanks, and breasts twice a day, and rub it into the skin quite aggressively.”

Top 7 Questions to Ask Your Plastic Surgeon

By drglatt on December 9, 2008

At some point in your life, you have probably seen or heard about bad plastic surgery. Bad plastic surgery is very frequently in the news, and because plastic surgery is a lucrative business, many surgeons (or even non-surgeons!) without the necessary qualifications try to venture into the field. But bad plastic surgery can leave more scars, cause infections, complications or even death, and most often does not provide the desired result. You can avoid becoming a victim of bad plastic surgery by carefully researching the doctors you are seeing for a consultation.  Make sure to do your homework!

Dr. Brian S. Glatt, MD, says there are 7 questions that you should ask your plastic surgeon prior to proceeding with any treatment or procedure:

The importance of being a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

By drglatt on December 9, 2008

You wouldn’t want your plastic surgeon performing your root canal or cataract surgery, so why would you allow an oral surgeon to perform your facelift or an opthamalogist to perform your blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)?

These days, it seems like every doctor performing cosmetic procedures is board certified in something. But, did you know that not every plastic surgeon offering cosmetic surgery in his practice is actually a board certified plastic surgeon? A board certified plastic surgeon gets his certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).  In fact, the ABPS is the ONLY Board that is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify doctors in the specialty of plastic surgery.  There is no recognized board that exists which focuses specifically on cosmetic surgery.

A board certified plastic surgeon of the American Board of Plastic Surgery has to undergo a specific number of years of intense training and education in the field of plastic surgery in order to gain the required skills needed for providing the most comprehensive, ethical, and competent care for his patients.

A board certified plastic surgeon must prove his skills by meeting rigorous qualifications at a high level. These qualifications include:

  • 1) Graduating from a recognized medical school
  • 2) Completing a minimum six years of extra residency for becoming a board certified plastic surgeon. These years include three years of practicing plastic surgery and three years of practicing general surgery.
  • 3) The plastic surgeon has to pass comprehensive oral and written exams to become a board certified plastic surgeon.

So, what is the importance of having a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery perform your cosmetic procedure? The board certified plastic surgeon holds importance due to the fact that his patients get the assurance that such a surgeon will have vast experience in most procedures related to the practice of plastic surgery. Patients can get all the necessary guidance for making an informed decision from a board certified plastic surgeon. The credibility of the board certified plastic surgeon is proven and hence, such doctors are reliable and many are pioneers in the field.

As a board certified plastic surgeon located in Morristown, New Jersey, serving northern New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area, Brian S. Glatt, MD has devoted his life to providing the highest standard of care to his patients. After training at some of the finest institutions in the world, Dr. Glatt possesses exceptional technical skills and the expertise needed to produce the results that you desire.
