MORRISTOWN, NJ – Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed procedures in all of plastic surgery. It involves the use of blunt tipped probes, called “cannulas”, placed through tiny hidden incisions to remove excess deposits of fat. Liposuction involves not only fat removal, but also sculpting of the body. Common areas for liposuction treatment include the abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, knees, and chest (for men).
There is much confusion among patients regarding “types” of liposuction which exist. Many people have heard the terms “Liposcupture”, “Liposelect”, “Laser Lipo”, “Ultrasound assisted liposuction”, and “Tumescent Liposuction”. The fact is that studies performed and published in the plastic surgery literature show NO BENEFIT or DIFFERENCE between different liposuction modalities! These terms are heavily marketed by those who have purchased the devices and the techniques have been shown to produce no advantage over more standard techniques. Many of the claims made of less or no bruising and minimal to no recovery are completely exaggerated and likely to not be true. It is impossible to undergo surgery which produces results without having to undergo some recovery!
Dr. Glatt perfoms suction-assisted liposuction with tumescence as well as ultrasound-assisted liposuction and is versatile with each. These are the only two standard liposuction approaches which exist and many of the marketing terms (such as Liposculpture) are actually just one type of ultrasound liposuction machine!
Recovery from liposuction does involve a certain amount of bruising and swelling. While overall discomfort only lasts for a few short days, the swelling may last for several weeks. This makes liposuction an ideal treatment during the winter months when bulky clothes can be used to hide treated areas during healing. Dr. Glatt prefers that his patients wear a compression garment for the weeks following their liposuction, and this helps the swelling and bruising resolve faster. This garment is provided to you at no additional expense, and is worn underneath your clothing during the healing process.
Liposuction is also a procedure which is commonly combined with and easily incorporated into other procedures to further enhance your results, such as a tummy-tuck (abdominoplasty), breast reduction, or breast lift (mastopexy).

A recent landmark review has verified that several leading skin-renewal treatments are medically effective. These treatments include regular use of topical retinol products (such as Retin-A) and injections of hyaluronic acid (the substance which makes up Restylane, Juvederm, and Perlane). Each of these treatments improve the skin by strengthening what is known as its dermal collagen matrix. The study also found that the hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane) can boost collagen production when delivered by syringe, demonstrating that these injectable fillers have medical value in addition to cosmetic value.
Dr. Brian Glatt offers all of the skin renewal treatments reviewed in the study, including Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm (hyaluronic acid fillers). Additionally, our skin care consultants at the Premier Plastic Surgery Center of New Jersey offer topical prescription strength retinol products by such popular names in the skin care industry as Obagi, LaRoche-Posay, and Neocutis.
Call us today to receive more information about any of these treatments from Dr. Glatt and book an appointment with one of our licensed skin care specialists to keep your skin looking healthy and fresh throughout the year!

Botox injections are the most common noninvasive treatment performed in the United States! Botox injections relax wrinkles formed by facial muscles and reduce the appearance of these fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is FDA approved for treating frown lines, blepharospasm (eyelid spasms) and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Botox is used to treat existing facial lines caused by repetitive muscle movement. Botox also prevents new lines from forming. Common injection sites for addressing wrinkles and lines are:

At some point in your life, you have probably seen or heard about bad plastic surgery. Bad plastic surgery is very frequently in the news, and because plastic surgery is a lucrative business, many surgeons (or even non-surgeons!) without the necessary qualifications try to venture into the field. But bad plastic surgery can leave more scars, cause infections, complications or even death, and most often does not provide the desired result. You can avoid becoming a victim of bad plastic surgery by carefully researching the doctors you are seeing for a consultation. Make sure to do your homework!
Dr. Brian S. Glatt, MD, says there are 7 questions that you should ask your plastic surgeon prior to proceeding with any treatment or procedure:

You wouldn’t want your plastic surgeon performing your root canal or cataract surgery, so why would you allow an oral surgeon to perform your facelift or an opthamalogist to perform your blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)?
These days, it seems like every doctor performing cosmetic procedures is board certified in something. But, did you know that not every plastic surgeon offering cosmetic surgery in his practice is actually a board certified plastic surgeon? A board certified plastic surgeon gets his certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). In fact, the ABPS is the ONLY Board that is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify doctors in the specialty of plastic surgery. There is no recognized board that exists which focuses specifically on cosmetic surgery.
A board certified plastic surgeon of the American Board of Plastic Surgery has to undergo a specific number of years of intense training and education in the field of plastic surgery in order to gain the required skills needed for providing the most comprehensive, ethical, and competent care for his patients.
A board certified plastic surgeon must prove his skills by meeting rigorous qualifications at a high level. These qualifications include:
So, what is the importance of having a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery perform your cosmetic procedure? The board certified plastic surgeon holds importance due to the fact that his patients get the assurance that such a surgeon will have vast experience in most procedures related to the practice of plastic surgery. Patients can get all the necessary guidance for making an informed decision from a board certified plastic surgeon. The credibility of the board certified plastic surgeon is proven and hence, such doctors are reliable and many are pioneers in the field.
As a board certified plastic surgeon located in Morristown, New Jersey, serving northern New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area, Brian S. Glatt, MD has devoted his life to providing the highest standard of care to his patients.
